To many people, the concept of stewardship is often limited to money. While finances are indeed a part of stewardship, they represent only a small portion of a much greater picture.

The true foundation of stewardship is rooted in Creation itself. In Genesis 1:26–28, God declares His purpose for humanity—to be made in His image and entrusted with dominion over the earth and every living thing upon it. God not only created mankind, male and female, in His own image, but He also blessed them and gave them the responsibility to be fruitful, multiply, replenish the earth, and care for His creation.

Viewed in this light, stewardship is revealed as a sacred and solemn responsibility. It is a trust that God has graciously placed in the hands of humanity, equipping us to manage, protect, and faithfully represent Him in all that He has entrusted to our care.

“We are God’s stewards, entrusted by Him with time and opportunities, abilities and possessions, and the blessings of the earth and its resources. We are responsible to Him for their proper use.

We acknowledge God’s ownership by faithful service to Him and our fellow human beings, and by returning tithe and giving offerings for the proclamation of His gospel and the support and growth of His church.

Stewardship is a privilege given to us by God for nurture in love and the victory over selfishness and covetousness. Stewards rejoice in the blessings that come to others as a result of their faithfulness.
